It is my pleasure to host this special giveaway of an original still-life oil painting by my friend and artist, Elizabeth Floyd. This is such a treat as I greatly admire Liz personally and professionally. And, I am quite drawn to the quiet beauty of her work.
Liz and I first met last year after corresponding via our blogs. We immediately connected on many topics – from art to design to nature. Trained as an architect, she left that structured world to nurture her dreams of becoming an artist and, essentially, for a gentler pace. To read her complete bio, please visit here.
From an interview for the Lorton Patch, February 2013:
“The objects that populate our lives have the means to speak to others, and I hope I can encourage people to pause and find something to appreciate. I love art because it gives me an opportunity to show and express what I find so remarkable and beautiful in this world.”
~ Elizabeth Floyd
Artist Elizabeth Floyd with daughter Naomi.
After discovering her lovely paintings online, I wanted to visit Liz in her world. Here are my photos of her home and studio.
Two simple but evocative still-life vignettes being painted at the time.
Liz paints only in natural light. Her collections of props, bottles, dishes, and natural curiosities are fascinating!
A few of my favorite paintings. To see works currently available, please visit here.
The following paintings spoke to me, and I have paired them together as such.
Now for the giveaway. There are two paintings available (see below), and the winner of this drawing gets to select one. Here’s how to enter, etc:
1) Visit Liz’s portfolio and have a look at her paintings.
2) Come back and leave a comment on my blog stating which one of the two paintings (below) you would like.
3) Please leave your name and a way for me to identify or contact you.
4) Only one entry per person.
5) All are welcome, whether you have a blog or not – including readers outside the U.S.
6) This drawing ends September 24, 2013 at 8:00 PM Eastern Time. One name (by comment number) will be drawn randomly via Random.org.
7) I’ll announce the winner on September 25, 2013.
8) The painting will be shipped free of charge to the winner – no PO box address, please.
Option #1: Still Life with Apple, Silver Cup and Bottle. I had it custom framed in a Victorian style silver frame.
This little gem measures 5 1/2″ x 7 1/2″ and is propped in front of the art books in our library. It’s meant to be picked up and admired.
Option #2: Still Life with Fruit and Teacup. At 8 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ it is a perfect little square, and can be hung or propped. It was photographed in our shop on a Swedish Gustavian commode.
So those are the two paintings, and one will soon go to a new home. Many, many thanks to Liz for her generosity!! I hope you will visit her blog for inspiration, and perhaps, include her lovely painting(s) in your home. And, thank you for taking the time to enter this drawing! Cheers, Loi
Option 2 is beautiful. James.jay@gmail.com

Loi, Of the two paintings, I really like the green apple and silver cup. I almost hesitate to enter the give away, after winning your last painting give away. However, I am sure my luck will run out on this one.:) No matter, I wanted to stop by and say hello. You may enjoy my last number of posts on Scandinavia (GraciousInteriors.blogspot.com). As I write, I often think of you and your connection to this part of the world. Happy fall!

Loi, Elizabeth's work is striking. I can see why you were so taken. I thoroughly appreciated seeing her props, cups, and bottles, along with the other items she uses.
I think both choices are beautiful but I especially like #1. The green apple is so appealing!!! I loved the way you framed it.
Thank you for offering this wonderful opportunity for someone to enjoy Elizabeth's work in their home.

Dear Loi,
I enjoyed visiting Elizabeth's site and viewing her work, especially those works that have both nature and highly reflective surfaces. My pick would be No. 1, with the green apple.

Thank you for introducing such a talented artist to me! Love her cloudscapes series. I would have to pick option #1–what a great idea to encourage picking up the piece and really looking at it. Would definitely copy that idea and place it on my bookshelf.
Hi Loi, so lovely of you to feature Ms. Floyd. I look for miniature still lifes and landscapes frequently on Etsy and discovered her work quite a while ago. I am still regretting I didn't buy a persimmon painting she had. I regret it to this day. I favorited it and when I went back it was sold. Alas! I love both paintings but I think I'd choose the apple and silver cup.
Thanks for dropping by the blog. I'd have love to have gone to fashion school too… 🙂
xo Terri
What a great giveaway. I have followed Elizabeth's work for some time now and am always impressed. How lucky to see a glimpse of her studio.
I love the apple still life and its great use of reflection.
Thanks!

Thank you for introducing us to this talented artist and providing this generous give-away. Elizabeth's work is technically impressive but more than that, she somehow makes ordinary objects extraordinary.
While both paintings are lovely, I'm very drawn to #1 with the silver cup and apple. I love the reflective quality of the piece. The overall effect is beautiful.

Oh, you're making us choose! How difficult, but I think I would go with "fruit and teacup."
I really liked her heirloom tomatoes series on her blog. Take care, Cindy
I went to your blog from Instagram, and was very pleased to see this giveaway! Both the paintings are lovely, but I really like #1 with the silver tones and bright green of the apple. Very nice. Thank you for the opportunity! Alison
Loi, what a great and generous giveaway you are offering! Elizabeth's work is lovely and sweet. I've done some oil painting and pastels and I know how difficult it is to capture such things on paper, especially glass and metal. I love her work of flowers in Ball jars. Thank you for a chance to win one of her paintings!
Claudia
Hi Loi
Thank you for sharing Elizabeth's lovely paintings with us. They are full of charm and her vignettes are beautiful. In particular I love the silver cup with violets (A favorite flower) and the blue and white Chinese bowl with peaches. Im going to check out her other work pronto.
Michael
Of course I want the one with the coffee cup. Please!! And you know how to contact me.
Her work has such a lovely luminescent quality! I never win, but throwing my name in the hat anyway – I have such a fondness for silver mint julep cups!
After a visit to her site Loi, I find so many I love! I am drawn to the dandelions, daffodils, and forsythia…..I didn't realize my love for yellow! Such a generous giveaway….I love both, but the silver cup and apple would be my choice….enjoy your Sunday.
Loi, have followed your blog since discovering it several months ago. Beautifully photographed–every shot is so spot on. Elizabeth's portfolio will take time to really look through but her paintings draw viewer in. Tough to move on to the next. I'd take the silver cup and green apple. The light!
nkbrown01@gmail.com
Dearest Loi,
I am rather late, having been out last night at a poetry reading!
I am all here my friend. I would love to enter this giveaway with my choice being the one with the SILVER CUP. I love what she has to say about her mission to cause people to PAUSE. How true that is for just about any art, including YOUR art to decorate the home with time-worn beauty that causes ME to stop and wonder and melt in the comfort of a gray, white and natural toned environment.
BIG WISHES TO YOU FOR A SILENT and restful Sunday !!! Anita
Hi Loi,
Throwing my hat in the pile here. I'm glad you introduced me to her work, she is so right that original art in the home is so enriching, it's almost alive. She has a painting of peonies over there that I love.
Onto the giveaway, I love the apple and julep cup and that fact that its propped up instead of hung and meant to be picked up and studied. It again becomes an animate object, beautiful.
Good luck to all. What a wonderfully generous giveaway.
Much love
Di
xxxxxxx
Wow her work is stunning, please count me in! I love the petunia painting but al are beautiful….nothing like an original piece of art! My choice would be option 1, your pictures are so pretty!
Hi Loi, ELizabeth's work is lovely (as are your photos of her inpirations)and I like her philosophy – sharing the simple beauty in everyday life. There is nothing better.
Hope you've had a great weekend!
xoxo,
Phyllis
Hi Loi,
Beautiful work. I admire people who can paint and draw. Elizabeth is no exception. Thank you for introducing us to her creations. One of my favorite present day painters is James Aponovich and Elizabeth's paintings remind me slightly of his style with the vibrant colors and still life subjects.
I love all of her paintings however for this giveaway I would love the fruit with teacup.
Have a wonderful day.
Fondly-Lisa
Oh my goodness, such beautiful paintings! I just love all the blossoms in the canning jars. If I was so lucky to be the winner of this give away I would choose the apple and silver cup–they both are just lovely…
Her work is exquisite and Im so happy to get to know this artist! Thank you for the opportunity to win one of her paintings. I love the silver cup and the apple. Love the texture and the capturing of the light in her work! Enjoy your weekend~ It is gorgeous outside!
xo Nancy
Thank you for sharing Elizabeth's beautiful work and studio with us! My favorite from her current available portfolio would be Still Life with Tangerines and Crock but I love so many of them. The table tops of her studio are so perfect with the grouping of paint brushes and flowers in jars. Also love the paining you featured with the Mason jar and crabapples. Have a wonderful relaxing Sunday, Loi!
Hello Loi, Elizabeth Floyd's still lifes are all wonderful–she is expert at depicting lively surfaces. Yet I was also taken with her landscapes. Like most commenters here, I would select the apple and cup–her painting of the details and surface of the cup are a real tour de force, and she relates the apple and cup by emphasizing their shininess and peened quality that they have in common.
–Road to Parnassus
Hi Loi! Her work is beautiful, I see why you are drawn to it!! I love how you have paired her work. I love #1 just stunning! xo leslie
I am a follower of your blog all the way from Cape Town, South Africa! Ordinarily I would pass by entering any giveaways but, since I will be in New York and Washington in December, I decided adding my name to the draw for this absolutely beautiful still life might just be worth doing. If I had space in my suitcase I would be coming home with many more.
Wendy x
Hello, Loi. Thanks for your generosity with this art give-away. Liz's work is beautiful, and I commend her for following her life's passion. I started to comment on your last blog – loved! your "new leaf" topic as entry into fall, and I have tried to find some of those beautiful creamware/smearware leaf dishes but gave up.
I am partial to the first of these 2 beautiful paintings. Thanks, my friend! Enjoy the cooler weather! xoxo to you, Tom and the pooches. Hope all are well.
Addendum to my prior post – the painting I meant to indicate as my favorite is the apple one. Thanks!!
Beautiful paintings (and photos)! Love your blog and hope to visit your store someday soon! Thank you for the introduction to this great artist. I like them both but I'm partial to a pop of orange so the still life with fruit and teacup would be a treasure for me! Stacey (rsbauer9592@hotmail.com)
Liz is such a gifted painter. Both paintings are beautiful, but my favorite is the Still Life with Apple and Silver Cup.

What a choice! I guess Option #2..
I've been a fan and follower and FB friend of Elizabeth's for quite a while and love her work, and the way she works. It is a talent to take the everyday and add such texture and feeling and life to it! I will continue to look for her new things almost every day…Here's hoping!
Loi,
Thank you for this wonderful post I've never seen Liz' work before. I love her 'sliced watermelon' painting and the cloud ones were dreamy…
As for the give-away I like number 1. The apple and with silver cup and bottle.
Christine
Once more Tone on Tone( Loi) has gone above and beyond touching my heart and awakening memories/ emotions of yesterday by the amazing art work of Elizabeth Floyd. I loved Elizabeth's works and have subscribed to her blog. I have been working with watercolours and botanicals are my favourites. I love her style and interpretations/ explanations. I read through her Summers Bounty describing the(her) creative process which gave me so much inspiration to "go back at it" if not fully satisfied. For a real amatuer that is a scary thing…but now that Elizabeth has discussed this fully and demonstrated her process for finishing I will certainly pull them all out and have a go. How generous of you to offer this "prize". I really love the Green Apple and Silver Cup still life framed in the Victorian style frame(#1)although I would accept any one of Elizabeths paintings. If she was closer I would seek lessons and definitely visit to drool over the merchandise. I may even plan a trip to do just that. I loved the Cone flowers (I have some to plant in the butterfly garden) and the Decembers Bounty- Pomegranite, High Tea and of course the Autum Marigolds. What a great way to start my Sunday of painting walls and varnishing (not so creative).
Maggie,
Thank you so much for your thoughts 🙂 Loi has out done himself again, and I am honored to have my art on his blog.
Elizabeth
Dear Loi, both of these are beautiful, I enjoyed perusing her collection of paintings for sale!
I love both above, especially the Still Life with Silver Cup with Apple, Silver Cup and Bottle! The silvery frame is also so complementary!
A most wonderful Artist and and I love her style!
xoxo

All of Elizabeth's work is lovely, what a talent. I'm glad you narrowed the field to two choices, and if I were lucky enough to be the chosen winner I would have to chose Still Life with Apple, Silver Cup and Bottle. My family is from Kentucky so to pass up on a julep cup would be sacrilege. Thank you for the opportunity and happy Sunday!

Loi, I love being able to see how an artist works. Her studio looks so inspirational. Your photographs of it alone are gorgeous, especially the one you took of the blue jar next to the eggs in the nest. That one looks like a painting itself! I went to her website and really like Spring Harmony. Of the two available for the giveaway I like the green apple and silver cup. Thanks so much for a chance to own it!
Khammany ♥

I admire Elizabeth Floyd's work, and that she walked away from a career in architecture to follow her passion. Her still life paintings that have blue and white in them are my favorites, so my preference is Still Life with Fruit and Tea Cup – although both are beautiful. Thanks for the studio tour, Loi. I love to see where artists work!
Beautiful! Thank you for the posting. I adore Option #1. rosenthalws@gmail.com

I am enchanted by option #1.The color of the apple is my favorite color. Thank you for introducing me to this artist. redbrick44@aol.com
Love and admire the work of Elizabeth Floyd from a log time ago. We are also friend in fb. She is an inspiration for me. I like both options in the same way. So I say option#1 eviepatra@gmail.com.
My blog L'atelier de petit bateau has paintings in Soft Pastels.
Dear Loi – I can understand your love of Elizabeth Floyd's work – she has the ability to combine elements within a still life that are rich and generate gorgeous reflections. Both paintings are wonderful but for me number one slightly has the edge – the silver and green compliment each other so beautifully. I have really enjoyed looking at Elizabeth's site.
Dear Loi,
Thank you for giving us the chance to win one of Elizabeth Floyd's wonderful paintings. Her still life's are just lovely. I especially love some of the heirloom tomato paintings on her website. I would love to have option #1 still life with apple, silver cup and bottle should I be chosen, although both paintings are beautiful.
Thank you for the opportunity to win one of these delightful paintings and for introducing me to Elizabeth's work
Lisa- nestlbs@gmail.com
I wasn't familiar with Elizabeth Floyd, but have just spent some time enjoying her portfolio. What beautiful work- I especially like the feeling of serenity many of her paintings have. Of the two you showcased, I would choose option #1 the Still life with apple, silver cup and bottle- it just calls to me. Thank you for the opportunity, and I will definitely be keeping an eye on her work.
Such beautiful work! Thank you for sharing! Both paintings are so beautiful, but I do love option #2 Still Life with Fruit and Teacup. Thank you for the opportunity!
kristen@pursuingvintage.com
Love Liz's work, and she is such a wonderful human too! I like both paintings and would not turn either away. But if I have to choose, I pick the one with the apple! Deb Keirce, 571-236-0047, debrakeirceart@yahoo.com, debkart . Com
Such beautiful work, and tremendous talent. I'm so happy that you brought Liz to my attention! I love them both, but if I have to choose, #1 would be my pick. Thank you! bluemoongirl@verizon.net
Hi, Loi. Elizabeth's work is beautiful. I collect small format still life paintings of fruit so I am totally taken with her work. Both paintings are lovely but image #1 of the apple and silver cup really speaks to me. (Love the framing too.) I love that she works in oil. There is nothing like it, in my opinion, for depth of color and texture. She has a daily painting of figs on her website that is just luscious. Thank you for letting us know about her.
XO, Victoria
I prefer option 1 with the green apple, but they are both lovely. It is nice to know that some of her can be purchased on Etsy.
I love Option 1 the Still Life with Apple, Silver Cup and Bottle. I love paintings of all kinds.
Her paintings are so beautiful that I like them all but the apple and silver cup is perfect for my house!
dbethay@cox.net
Hello, Thank you for offering the opportunity of owning one of these beautiful paintings.
Difficult to choose, but I am drawn to option #1, there's just something about the shine on that silver cup, that I am drawn to. Lovely, simply lovely. Many thanks again, Judith ~ darryl.peacock@sympatico.ca
Loi – thank you so much for your beautiful blog and for introducing us to Elizabeth's stunning paintings. They have so much depth to them. She is so very talented and it's such a pleasure looking through her work and web site. #1 is my favourite.
Hello Loi,
Love the beautiful images on your blog. Thank you for the introduction to Elizabeth's paintings. My choice is the green apple and its reflection in the silver cup!
Jamie

Loi,
Greetings, I am so excited to participate in your contest, and what great choices! No one could possibly be disappointed to own either piece. Visually, I am drawn to the green apple and silver bucket, that you referred to as a gem. I usually work in a large scale and I am quite taken with the size and aptly agree with your description. The cool colors command your attention, yet hints of reflection and warm highlights invite your eye to linger and find the balance of softness and depth, while its petite size lends to the feeling of owning a little gem. I really enjoy looking at this piece.
Thank you for the opportunity to own the work,
Valerie

Loi,
You do not need to include me in this wonderful give-away as I am already the proud owner of one of Liz's paintings. She is just a beautiful person, mother and friend. Although we have not met – artisans develop relationships found on line and she has been incredibly supportive, kind and inspiring to me.
As you are also another inspiring person to me and to many.
Thank-you Loi.

Such a talented artist, her paintings are amazing!! Everything is so beautiful…I do love the green apple painting!
Hi Loi,
Firstly, thank you so very much for introducing us to Elizabeth's beautiful works. I have just come from her website and blog and am enchanted with her still life paintings of flowers in that glimmer of natural light. Also, her more recent work with clouds was interesting to view, with the colours being more subdued due to the subject matter. Both paintings you have presented here are lovely, but I will choose Option #2, Still Life with Fruit and Teacup since I have the perfect place for it in my sunroom/autumn room!
Thanks again and enjoyed this most inspiring post!
Poppy
Dear Loi,
I have returned!!

Oh Loi my friend, how I rejoice when I see you have come to visit me! Thank you for your kind spirit and my schedule is something new to learn, plus the desire I have to write poetry on the side. It requires so much attention, I hope I can swing it. I'm already tired!
But coming here is always a soothing experience. Peace my friend, and enjoy this great cool weather! Anita

Hello hello Loi!
I've been away for a bit with a glut of wonderful bindery projects, and I'm thrilled to have come back in time to learn about Elizabeth Floyd! What a talent she is… Thank you so much for the views of her studio as well– I love seeing the "tools of the trade"! I couldn't possible choose one of the two, so on the off-chance that my number comes up, I leave that to you! Most importantly, I'm off to add Liz to my list of "favorites" and hopefully do a bit of shopping on her site….Fun!
Warm regards,
Erika

This is such a wonderful give away! I'm so glad to be introduced to this artist. I love her landscapes but her silver cup paintings are simply beautiful. Her "Crab Apple with Silver Cup" is I think my favorite…so it's no surprise that I'd pick the "Still Life with Apple, Silver Cup and Bottle". Thank you for being a consistent source of inspiration and guidance in exquisite taste, Loi.
Loi, Thank you for sharing this artist. Liz's work is beautiful. I'd love to add a bit of green to our neutral foyer or use the painting with the apple as the color inspiration for our new master bathroom. Amy

Interesting post, Loi. I also paint and it is always fun to see the studios and work of others. You have placed her paintings beautifully. Love to see leaning paintings just as much as hanging ones. Good luck to all the contestants.
