Hello, friends -It’s been a long time! It wasn’t my intention to take such a lengthy blog break. Life just got busy. Since my last post in the spring, I have much to share.

Tom and I were in Maine most of this past summer and, after returning to Maryland, we’ve been focused on our cottage here. We had a stone wall built, had parts of the garden re-landscaped, had a topiary greenhouse / potting shed constructed, and had the garage converted to a design studio for my interior and garden design business.

Speaking of design work, I’ve been spending more and more time helping clients with their interiors and landscaping. (I’ll share a few projects soon.) But, honestly, finding enough time to do that plus run the shop these last few years has been challenging. Because I am personally involved with every detail at Tone on Tone – from buying each item to styling each vignette – the store really limits my availability to focus on other work. Therefore, I have decided, with a heavy heart, to close Tone on Tone in Bethesda.

The shop has always been like another home; except everything has a price tag 🙂 It’s been a treat welcoming each of you through the front doors, and chatting antiques, decorating, topiaries, travels, etc., etc. So many of you have become dear friends, too! I’m grateful for (nearly) 15 years of doing what I love!! I look forward to recapping, in a future blog post, all the fabulous finds plus fun adventures.

Please stop in to say goodbye and have a browse around – the store will close in mid December. If anything catches your eye, let me know now so that I can tempt you with an IRRESISTIBLE deal.

Here’s just a sampling of the current inventory:

An early French armoire with sumptuous craftsmanship and carvings – look at the charming birds in their cozy nest 💙

Also shown is a pair of Swedish demi-lune consoles surmounted by botanical prints, a French round side table, and a French blue-gray painted bergere, which has been completely reupholstered with new Belgian linen in a greige color.
There are a few Swedish painted armchairs and settees in stock; all have been reupholstered in linen.
Here is a French silver plated Jansen style coffee table, 34″ x 17.25″ x 16.5″ high – simple, elegant and tres chic!
Several secretary desks are available. This Swedish Gustavian one, with a fall-front writing surface, has ample storage with its four long drawers. I would use it in a living room, study or bedroom – such a versatile piece.
The sculptural beechwood chair, one of a pair, is French from the 1820-30s.
Below is a view of the shop today – see anything you like?
A
closer look at a vignette featuring a French giltwood mirror over a
Swedish Gustavian tall chest. The mirror has a fabulous ‘rope’ frame and original mercury glass.
Lots of other mirrors available in various sizes.
I really like the tailored lines of this French bench with new Belgian linen upholstery. It would be so smart at the end of a bed.

There are unpainted furniture in pine, walnut, mahogany and cherry wood, as well. Below is a French fruitwood sideboard (80.75″ long) that would be great under a TV in a family room.

In addition to the antique furniture and accessories, I’m selling many of the pillows that I had custom made to dress the shop.
Also for sale is my collection of antique books, which I personally brought back from Europe as props. These books are decorative in a soulful way. And some of the vellum ones are quite rare!
If you love smalls and accessories, come in to check out the china, artwork, candlesticks, garden items, etc.
There is so much more! Please come in to see everything.
Thank YOU all for your support and friendship!!
Cheers,
Loi
