We’re enjoying marvelous weather here in the Mid-Atlantic
region of the U.S. Sunny, comfortable days with low humidity and lovely cool
evenings. Last weekend, a visit to the countryside of Lancaster, Pennsylvania seemed like a splendid idea.We decided to visit the small farms and local nurseries in search of seasonal items to
decorate our home and shop for autumn. Check out our little trip.
Hello! I’ve died and gone to white pumpkin heaven 🙂
Look at all these Lumina white pumpkins . . .
. . . and these mini white pumpkins known as Baby Boos. Divine!
I think it’s pretty obvious we aren’t doing orange this year.
On the way home, I spotted this AWESOME barn. Check out the peeling white paint and folksy decorated arched shutters…and the interesting letters. Wonder what the barn is used for?
One potato, two potato . . .
Also picked up an ornamental kale to go in this white ironstone bowl.
Couldn’t resist these quirky white gourds for the shop.
I’m loving them on this antique French fish platter.
Beautiful, I love all of your natural white fall decor. I've never seen those gourds in white, I will have to keep an eye out for some. And that barn is so pretty, PA has such wonderful old barns.
Kat
Can't believe it! Really good!
Those white gourds are very sculptural, with swan-like features. They sit well in yoir fish platter.
If gourds and pumpkins were people, who would they be?
We don't really do seasonal decorating here in South Africa, other than Christmas. I love what you've done! The white pumpkins and gourds are perfect. I somehow don't see orange working in your home. Happy Autumn. x Sharon
OK, I think someone cross bred these pumpkins and gourds just for you!! Happy Fall!
Hi
Lovely blog you have, myself, I run three blogs, but this might be of interest to you http://mystorerusticdecor.blogspot.com where I sell fine old things from Swedish markets and flea markets
…And the Pumpkin God said, "Let there be WHITE!"…and so there was, and the white pumpkins spread and flourished through the land, 'illuminating' it everywhere they went, and finally settled into a little white haven on this colourful earth, in Loi's house and shop…Of COURSE you had to have white pumpkins! Was it ever a question?? Thanks for the tour; the barn is beautiful; love the textures and the stone/wood duality.
Have a great weekend.
Poppy
You mean "The Great Pumpkin" of course! now we know why Linus was waiting in the pumpkin patch!
Cheers!
Meredith
Dear Loi – you were meant to discover those sculptural white pumpkins, they were just sitting there waiting for your visit. They have fitted seamlessly into your beautiful home.
The barn was a lovely find – the hearts and peacocks on the shutters are redolent of celtic/scandinavia designs.
Dear Loi,
This is my first visit to your blog. I like it. I also like these white pumpkins. I have never seen them before. Here in our part of the world the pumpkins are bog, bold, and most definitely orange. I too was struck by the swan-like features of two of your gourds. Very nice.
Bye for now
Kirk
Hello, Kirk – Welcome! Thanks for your visit. The gourds are even more swan-like in person. Cheers, Loi
How wonderful! Loving the cream punkins 🙂 the gourds look like swan necks. Orange pumpkins, so passé darlings!
That barn is magnificent, would make a lovely home.
Happy Sunday Loi.
Much love
Di

Those white pumpkins and squash look beautiful. You have such an eye for design. I am inspired every time I read this amazing blog. Thank you for sharing your wonderful talents Loi. That barn just begs to tell its story. It looks like it is quite huge. I am guessing those letters are initials of the original builder, but who can say. I love the detail of the painting on the shutters. Yum! Welcome fall indeed.
Kind regards,
Susan
Why does it not surprise me that you even do Fall/Halloween decorating with elegance – and if ANYONE could find the most classically beautiful and elegant gourds that actually resemble swans (look at the last picture again) it had to be you Loi – lol!
Much love,
Paula xxx
White pumpkins are my favorite! I have a few of the smaller ones scattered about my house already and will most likely add more in the coming weeks. I love the kale in the ironstone bowl – just might have to copy!
Hello Loi,
I've never seen a white Pumpkin before. So much chic-er than the traditional orange.
They make super decorations on your kitchen counter.
Hope you have a lovely weekend,
Liz x
I love Poppy's comment.
Orange pumpkins should be banned. I hate them so much, friends buy them as a joke and leave them on my front porch. Love the swan gourds too.
What a beautiful and interesting old barn with the arched windows! I would love for that to be my country house.
Those Luminas had your name written all over them Loi, they look beautiful in situ. We are using those little cutesy Baby Boos on some of our Autumn wreaths this year, so sweet. Your photos are so soothing to the eye, stunning.
ooooh your white pumpkins are sooooooo elegant – SO Tone on Tone!! Would love those in my window display but I don't know whether they do them over here! I must go shopping. I am also in LOVE with your kitchen, how are you getting on with the white marble? now that you've had it for a while. My kitchen needs updating and I would really like to go for the marble (husband needs some convincing!!), would you recommend it??
Sharon
xxxx
We love our marble counter tops, Sharon. We wipe up immediately after everything…..so it does require care and diligence. Even water spots leave marks, etc. Maybe someday we'll let it patinate 🙂
Of course Loi's pumpkins are elegant! I love the bright green stems on the white pumpkins. They look so pretty in your kitchen with the green pendant light and kale. I was happy to find the white pumpkins on my errands last week at good old Home Depot along with heirloom ones.
One of our favorite things to do is to drive Arvind's little sports car on a sunny afternoon though the Amish part of our Geauga county here in Ohio. The simple farms and barns are so appealing set among the fall foliage. We then stop at the farm market for Honeycrisp apples, cider and local maple syrup…I love fall!!!!!
Hi Loi, I love your weekend outings, the photos are so evocative I feel like I have actually been away myself. The white pumpkins are gorgeous; we don't have such a good selection up here this year, maybe due to the summer heat and lack of rain.
It's great to see how you've used your finds in the house and shop; I am always inspired by your work – I spent yesterday editing my library and rearranging my pared-down collection of design books on two bookcases in my living room that I took from my daughter's room (her room is chaos now, but the living room looks better.) While sorting it out I was thinking of your orderly but very stylish shelves in DC.
Have a wonderful Sunday!
xoxo,
Phyllis
Good morning Loi! I love the pumpkins, I haven't found any white ones in our area:( Those gourds remind me of little swans…some I guess are tired because they are lying down. Enjoy the beautiful weather!
Everything looks so beautiful Loi and I think the white colored pumpkins go best in your kitchen and shop. Love your fish platter and that case piece is fabulous! Enjoy the autumn season!
Enjoy your Sunday!

Debra~
OH BOY…..If anyone in the world was with me on ORANGE…IT HAD TO BE YOU!
Love, love the Luninas. I HAVE to find some!! Will google and see if our area in Georgia has them.
Every time we see another little spinet of your home, I swoon! So beautiful, calm, elegant and classic and all the other descriptive words that exist!
Patty
White pumpkins are my favorite! As usual, I'm crazy over your beautiful photos!
Loi, I am in love with your wonderful display of white pumpkins and gourds. The gourd looks just like a swan, I love that. We are on our way up the coast to buy some fall plantings and on the top of my list is ornamental Kale, I plant it every year, love the color and texture it brings to the garden. I had to pin some of your images, You always inspire me!!
Happy Sunday,
xo Kathysue
Loi, white pumpkins are my favorite. I love how you displayed them in your kitchen and at the shop. I'm in love with the french side table. Your images, like always are gorgeous! I can see a book maybe in your future…..
Hello Loi:
Where we are concerned there cannot possibly be any contest whatsoever between white pumpkins, beautifully stylish, and no more so than seen lined up in your kitchen, and orange which, in our view, are slightly vulgar and commonplace. But then generally we have an intense dislike of that colour, no more so than when it comes to decorating.
The shabby chic of the barn is wonderful, particularly when seen in the image of the gable end. Such a very dramatic photograph.
And now we are off out to buy a cabbage to place in a white dish. Such copy cats!!
White is just right! I have the bb-boos on every candlestick holder I own! franki
are you kidding? Gorgeous! The shot with the kale and the green enamel light~gorgeous!
What a fun day Loi! We will be doing the same next weekend and I am crossing my fingers this string of sunny days holds up. Every year I go back and forth with my decision regarding size, shape, and color of pumpkins to decorate with. I considered doing all white and the family wanted orange so I will have a mix.. Aren't those gourds fun?! I have them in my urns, along with different types of squash 🙂 The barn is beautiful and I the kitchen is stunning! Enjoy your Sunday!
leslie
Hi Loi ,
The pumpkins are divine—BUT THE BUFFET IS THE MOST GORGEOUS PIECE I HAVE EVER SEEN. The proportions, the swags, the finish is all show-stopping. Hve a wonderful autumn Sunday. Mary
You are so ahead of the game! I have not bought any pumpkins yet. I am on the fence as to a color this year. The white ones look lovely with your antiques.
Happy Sunday Loi,
The white gourds are my favorite! I'm so jealous that you can drive to Lancaster, PA from where you are..when our son was 17, he played competitive ice hockey for a team there so he and Tom lived in that area for a year. Such a great place to antique too…Tom really enjoyed his time there. We were just talking about planning a trip back to that area, I loved rummaging through their antique stores and YES, those Amish barns are magnificent!
Have a great week,
Sarah
Hi Loi,
I am loving the white pumpkins! As always, your understated elegance is devine!
Cheers,
Cynthia
Love white pumpkins. They fit in perfectly in your kitchen.
Loi, I am into white and naturals this season as well. I would have been in heaven!
Some of the gourds look like swans to me!

Love those pumpkins, Loi. I was just thinking of white pumpkins this morning while putting away my shell collection. The gourds look just right on your antique fish platter. It's always a treat to see photos of your shop. Happy Sunday!
Deborah
Hi, Loi – I've never seen white pumpkins in a quantity like that! They're really dramatic with those dark green stalks. The barn is a beaut! I've been studying the windows, and the glass in the first photograph looks to be original to the barn . . .
How did you not buy them all! The white ones are stunning! Happy Fall! Xo. Leslie
I bought myself an ironstone-bowl's worth of white pumpkins yesterday. I am in love with them — never liked the orange ones. They look beautiful in your kitchen. I am envious of the cremone bolts on your casement windows too. I wanted them for my new kitchen casement but, sadly, they are not allowed in hurricane-prone Florida. The swan gourds look great in your tone-on-tone shop. It doesn't hurt that they sit atop that magnificent demi-lune console. I know I say this every time I see glimpses of your shop, but one day I hope to see it in person.
XO, Victoria
The big white pumpkins are really easy to grow, Loi-I had heaps last year! I didn't plant them this time around b/c I wasn't sure if we would even be here in OR still…wish I had done so now, LOL.
When I lived in TX, I used to use the white pumpkins through Thanksgiving, then stack 'em in threes and decorate them like snowmen( my kids were young then)!
Love all the white in your place. Gorgeous.
Loi, Love all of your white pumpkins lined up on the counter, especially with that cool green light! It's a fresh take…on the fall season. What a fun fall trip!
xxo Monica
Hi Loi, Although I still like the traditional vibrancy of orange pumpkins, I admire what you have done with the white variety here, and how they fit in with your personality. The creamy white color and rough texture of some of these gourds reminded me of ku gua (bitter melon). Maybe you could add a couple of these to the mix.
–Road to Parnassus
I can see that many others saw swans in your white gourds- the pictures are gorgeous and I love how we can get the white pumpkins in such quantity now…I used to have to search and search for them and they were often a little beaten up…but even though they're more easy to find now, I still love the fresh take on fall decor that they bring! thanks for a beautiful Sunday post!
Cheers!
Meredith
Hi Meredith – Yes, the white pumpkins are now available at many Whole Foods. And you can usually find the Baby Boos (3 for $1) at Giant, Safeway, etc.
Cheers,
Loi
Dear Loi,
I love white pumpkins!! They are so decorative!I am pleased to see what you have done with these white cuties!! Beautiful!! You brought me a good idea today! Thank you dear Loi!
I wish you a wonderful Sunday evening!
xx
Greet
I'm always inspired by your displays with natural objects!
The row of white pumpkins in your kitchen are so simple and charming.
I've never seen white gourds before, but I'll now be on the lookout!
Happy Autumn Loi!
xo
Brooke
I always love the white pumpkins but I don't have the discipline to stay away from the others!!! I love love them in your kitchen.
Wishing you the best this fall- it is one of my favorite seasons!
Best,
Christina
Since orange makes me see red…I was thrilled when the Lumina variety and Baby Boos came on the scene…now it's the only way to go for me! Love the way you decorate…so sophisticated, elegant and serene.
Happy Autumn Loi!
Laura 🙂
Ok, Loi, I am seriously in love with the baby white pumpkins and the gourds! You find the most amazing things!! The gourds look so pretty in the sideboard.
Happy Sunday.
Teresa
xoxo
Loi,
You've set the tone on tone for the fall season! Love all the white pumpkins and gourds. Maybe eventually we'll have pale lavendar pumpkins…that's a time when growers will figure out how grown every pumpkin and gourd color imaginable to match our decor. Just love fall and all the preparations for the upcoming holidays. Cheers!
Bette
Loi, we are on the same white pumpkin/gourd page! That is EXACTLY what I did in my shop! They are mixed in with my ironstone on our extra long pine farm table and they are wonderful! Maybe I should take my fish platter back to the shop and use it like you did! I've been planting the kale as well…probably over did it a bit but it's so exciting to be using these wonderful fall elements in our yard and homes! So glad you did this post! I hope you are doing well and that you have a wonderful week ahead! By the way….the barn was wonderful!!!
Since I discovered white pumpkins-they are my very favorite + love the orange ones also mixed with mums(would not want the pumpkin fairies to be angry)Here in S. CA it is still hot! Thanks for your sweet comment on my blog-will tell my friends to go by to see your shop.Have a wonderful weekend. xxpeggybraswelldesign.com
Hi Loi
I've never liked a pumpkin really…
….until NOW! Genius! these beautiful white's look so fabulous on the marble!

Love this post….love the white punkins and gourds and LOVE your kitchen!!!!
Punkins = southern for 'pumpkins'
I want some punkin pie, Patty 🙂
need some baby boos! Perfectly suited to the soft, clean hues of your home and shop
Wow, white pumpkins sure do generate the comments! I love the mini white pumpkins. They are so cute! But since orange is my favorite color, I can't resist a couple of large, traditional orange pumpkins on my front steps. This year I want to find one of those light green ones too. They are pretty also.
Claudia
Loi, you were in my neck of the woods. We have enjoyed beautiful weather this weekend, too. I'm glad you got to enjoy it. Next time you come to Amish country, stop and see us. We live on a street with a covered bridge and would love to show you our neighborhood of Amish farms and horse farms! I am trying to place the market where you got the white pumpkins…and the barn. Where are they?
Loi,
We are still having a little summer although I felt Fall a few mornings this week. White Pumpkin heaven!!! I love it! I absolutely love pumpkins, in any color but most especially the white. I think there is something so beautiful and happy about the shaped of pumpkins and gourds. And I really love pumpkin in food, as you could tell from my posts lately.
Your kitchen looks elegant with the pumpkins lined up on the counter and the shop is stunning as always.
I hope you have a wonderful week, Elizabeth
Hi Loi,
I've got 5 of those little white Baby Boos in my French kitchen scale, but I've never seen such a great collection of white pumpkins of all sizes. The white gourds you have on the French fish platter look like swans! What a fun trip.
Hope you had a wonderful weekend.
Karen
Loi, this blog got me is such a good mood. I just love your style. My favorite photo was the pumpkins on the counter with the kale in the bowl..just love that pop of green. I mean it..sometimes you just make my day!
What a fun field trip! 🙂 Love all the white pumpkins and those white gourds are so cool! I have never seen white gourds before. The farmers better get busy this summer planting white gourds because after seeing them diplayed in your beautiful home everyone is going to want some!
shut up. just shut up!!! ;] just when I think he's gone as far as he can, he goes even further. I think I may actually begin to like the fall. WHITE PUMPKINS. Who knew? I wanna set up a cot in that kitchen. Please tell me its not ALWAYS that pristine.;] Anyway, its perfect! And then just as I was recovering from that, you hit me between the eyes with that unbelievable whatever that demi-lune piece is called with the reading and fretwork from heaven! Are you kidding me? :D!!! xo ~ Laurel
Love your white pumpkins! Especially love them on the kitchen counter. Really pretty!!
Judy
Beautiful post as always. I love those white pumpkins! Your kitchen is beautiful too! Have a great week! I put you on my blogroll. thought you were already there!

all about white this year too….although I do love the orange too.
All that barn needs is a "v" and it would be perfect for me, "PvE"
happy autumn. i always love your photos….what type of camera do you shoot with?
Perhaps you have posted on this before, so forgive me in advance.

Hello my friend!
Don't you just love this time of year? I plan on hitting the farm stand this afternoon for some pumpkins. I have never seen the white ones in person! xo
So fun! Ive never seen so many quite gourds as I have this year. Those gourds look like swans. I hope you have a great week and enjoy this fabulous weather my friend. Your kitchen is beyond beautiful!

Isn't it amazing at the gifts nature brings us?! I, too, have a fondness for white pumpkins. So far I've been doing a little orange, too, as with my white house, they just seem to add the right pop of autumn color.
I haven't made my trip to the nursery yet….but now you've got me ready to roll!
The gourds at the shop also look perfect on that platter!!!
Happy October!
xoxo Elizabeth
I love the simplicity of your fall decor. I take the same route: simple and only what nature provides. The rest just feels like too much to me, but to each his own! Loving the letters on that old barn! Two things I'm a sucker for: letters and barns!
Happy October,
Linsey
Hello Loi,
I couldn't resist adding to the pile of white pumpkin fan mail…! Your photography is stunning, as is your aesthetic– thank your for sharing! Warm regards, Erika
Didn't know these even existed. I wonder if I could get some of these albino pumpkins here in Peru. I don't think so. Ah, well, my bowl with white garlic heads will have to do!
Breathtaking images, Loi. Thanks!
Kifus
Loi I could loan you my son and daughter, they would have every dish, pan and utensil out in your gloriously pristine kitchen in a jiffy. I have never seen anyone who uses more utensils for scrambled eggs. Our local store has a great collection of pumpkins in ever hue, but I have never seen a white one before. Wonderful shot of the barn gable end, presenting it's weathered exterior to the autumn sunshine.
I too am loving those white pumpkins. They look right at home on your kitchen counter. See you next week.
xo
Hi Loi, your kitchen looks so pretty!! Love the kale in ironstone and your row of white pumpkins. Your shop picture is so gorgeous and the gourds in the platter are great! Wow, that barn's amazing! What a good idea to make such a nice trip of it. I'm excited to get shopping, thanks for the beautiful inspiration.
I hope your week is wonderful!
Robin
I am obsessed with white pumpkins – so beautiful and yours look amazing. Love how you arranged them in your kitchen, but now I'm needing to see more of your kitchen…GORGEOUS!!!
I love the white goose neck gourds, haven't seen any of those around.
I love autumn. We don't have it here, because it's always summer at this part of the world. So it's always nice to see how other friends are decorating for the seasons. 🙂 I had no idea there was such things as white pumpkins! Are they edible like their orange brothers and sisters?
How wonderful that it is always warm where you are, Amnah. Come February I will want to be there 🙂 I've never had white pumpkin pie, bread, food of any kind…..very curious myself, too! Anyone??
I am going right out to Home Depot to copy your kale in a white footed bowl!! So simple and beautiful. I love white pumpkins too.
Everything in your home is just perfection! I love how you put it, "One potato two…" Lol!!!
Have a wonderful week Loi!

I am sooo glad I found this site! I love all of your images, I too am a white pumpkin lover! There is something so crisp and clean about them! Happy Fall!

Loi, that's amazing! I've never seen so many white pumpkins. I made pumpkin butter the other day. It couldn't have been easier but truly made it feel like fall. This fall here in Japan is so exciting for me since I've been living in the South for the past six years, longing for cool weather. Everyone else is saddened that winter is around the bend, but I'm positively giddy!
White pumpkins and gourds fit your house and shop so well, Loi, so you. I went on an osage orange (those green inedible gnarly fruits that look like brains) search yesterday. The house is full of them today. Autumn is such fun.
xo,
b
Oh Loi these are inspiring! I did love growing Big Max this summer; however, I will now be researching white pumpkins and gourds, and gray ones as well. I adore how you have displayed them. So crisp and clean. Your home and shop challenge me to evaluate my home.
Why go orange if there is white? Love these white 'boos' as you know and the gourds are beautiful! The row of pumpkins in your kitchen looks like it belongs there! Ornamental kale is a great contrast with their 'ruffly' leaves!
As always, your posts are so inspiring!
Thanks for sharing
That’s really creative! Love that quirky creative white gourds as ornament.
Got my eye on your next posts.
Hello Loi,
Thank your for the comment, I laughed when you wrote that you did not read the end because you did not want to spoil the movie. I never tell the story of the whole movie if I write about one because I hate to be dissappointed myself when someone else does.
I have seen your white pumpkins in the kitchen pinned all over pinterest, such a lovely photo.
I hope you try the Blue Cheese pumpkin macaroni, or the Browned Buttter Chocolate Chip Cookies, I can tell you that they are FABULOUS! The macaroni is my favorite recipe, the same for the cookies.
Looking forward to more of your adventures! Take care and have a lovely day. I hope it is cooler by you, down here it is 85! Where did Fall go?
Elizabeth
You have a lovely kitchen Loi and the white pumpkins add the perfect subtle Fall touch!!! The barn is very interesting…I wonder myself what that is used for…will be thinking about that one for a while!
I wonder if I could get some white pumpkins here; i'm all about the unexpected and these white pumpkins definitely are unique! I will be hunting for some of these this weekend! Thanks for the inspiration. XX
Those shutters on that barn are really awesome! I've been looking for someone who does shutters in Kitchener. I think that having shutters will really polish off the look I'm going for on my house. I probably won't choose any that look like those, but it's fun to see how stuff like that can be integrated into different things!
It's a pleasure to have found you on Pinterest and I'm so happy to see that you have this gorgeous blog! I look forward to visiting you here and following along. Do you ship pumpkins? Just kidding, but I would be in heaven with all the white, my favorite!
Have a fun weekend!
Best, Lisa
I love the spin the white pumpkins and gourds bring to the season. So chic and so you!
Keri
You have me smiling and sighing with all this beauty, Loi!!
I have noticed many more varieties of pumpkin this year at the Farmer's Market…creamy whites and grays…stunning.
Thank you for the endless inspiration!
That barn is fabulous…
xoxo,
– Irina
Love your white pumpkin-parade! Love the clear-lined presentation in your kitchen….they really appear to me like little sculptures, each one with its own personality and so decorative. The few you've chosen for the French fish platter look like little swans, well, in my fantasy 🙂 – just fabulous!
And – of course – love this barn!
Warmest greetings to DC from the Périgord,
Karin
Whoever decided that white pumpkins would be cool….deserves a medal. I can't even look at an orange one now!
